Why I chose Lial:I believe in Lial’s philosophy of education and the child-centered approach to all that we do. I love the atmosphere in our school. 

Memorable Learning Experience: Being at the birth of 2 nieces and a nephew.  What a miracle!  

Accomplishment I most cherish: Being a Sister of Notre Dame -I celebrated 25 years of being a Sister in 2008

What I would like to get around to doing: Training for half a marathon or half a triatholon.  

I would like to meet: Grandfathers 

A great reading experience: The Bible for sure! I also enjoy Books by Avi

Something about my family: My youngest sister and oldest sister invited me to Disney World this past summer with their families. Seeing Disney through the eyes of a 7, 5, and 3 year old is the best way to see Disney!   Its Magical!

People may be surprised to know: I love adventure and have gone white water rafting, hot air ballooning, speed car racing, horse back riding in the mountains, and am looking forward to a new and at this point unknown adventure.

Something about my family: There are all very unique in their own ways! I have two children in college and one at Lial.

The year I came to Lial:   1990-2008 first time. I retired but couldn't stay away so I came back as the Friday Secretary January 2009.
Why I chose Lial:   I began as clerk and secretary and went to full time secretary when the expansion took place - the former      secretary was a close friend of mine.
Memorable Learning Experience:  Sister Margaret Mary convincing me that computers were better than typewriters - didn't take long after she gave me a project that would have required hours and hours of corrections on a typewriter.
Accomplishment I most cherish:   Learning every child's name and their parents' names, too, every year.
What I would like to get around to doing:   Writing a romance novel
I would like to meet:  Dead - George Washington;  Alive - Laveryl Spencer (want to ask her why she stopped writing) 
A great reading experience:  Hummingbird by Laveryl Spencer - I read it every summer.
Something about my family:   Two daughters, two grandchildren, and two step grandchildren
People may be surprised to know:   I just took my first plane flight this summer.

Something about my family: My husband Denny and I have been married for 29 years. We have been blessed with three wonderful children.

Something about my family:.  My husband Steve loves the outdoors.  He has been with “The Andersons” for many years.  My children, Jon and Stephanie are both happily married and living in Columbus.  Jon is a civil engineer and Stephanie is employed in a high risk OB practice as a nurse practitioner.  We have two beautiful granddaughters, Lily and Lauren.

Memorable Learning Experience: I would have to say Navy Boot camp was the most memorable. I learned a lot about myself, the military, and life with people with VERY diverse backgrounds.

Accomplishment I most cherish: Successfully completing my Masters while enjoying and nurturing my infant, toddler, and husband.

What I would like to get around to doing one of these days: Hiking to Manchu Picchu.

Educational background:  I attended Notre Dame Academy and went on to Mary Manse College.  In 1985 I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Master’s Degree in Education emphasizing Reading.
The year I came to Lial: I have been at Lial on two separate occasions:  in 1975-76 when the Primary unit began and in the 90’s as a French teacher and as an aide in reading.
Why I chose Lial: I believe Lial has chosen me on three different occasions.  And each time I have been blessed in interacting with wonderful staff/faculty, children and parents.  It is good to be back.

Memorable Learning Experience: Learning to cook in my mid-twenties.  
Accomplishment I most cherish:  Being a cancer survivor.
What I would like to get around to doing: Going back to New York City and taking in the sights I did not see my first time there, seeing a Broadway musical and rooting for  the Yankees again.
I would like to meet: The foundresses of the Sisters of Notre Dame.
A great reading experience: The Shack and The Glass Castle
Something about my family: My father recently turned 88.  My dad, four brothers and sister live in Michigan.
People may be surprised to know:  I enjoy sports, especially college football, college basketball, and the Yankees.  And a former student of mine, Adam Lind, is a professional baseball player for the Toronto Blue Jays!

Why I chose Lial: I know as a parent and a teacher that Lial is a special place. The multiage learning experience enables students to excel academically, and I love the spirituality of Lial’s students. When the opportunity arose for me to join the faculty I felt very blessed, and accepted the position eagerly.

Memorable Learning Experience:  Student teaching in the New York City public schools.

Accomplishment I most cherish: Giving birth to my children.

What I would like to get around to doing one of these days:. I would like to get around to printing all of the pictures that are on my computer and then organizing those pictures.

I would like to meet: Rachel Ray – I love her fun, easy and delicious cooking ideas.

A great reading experience: I love reading children’s picture books to my children and students. Unfortunately, I find it difficult to read for pleasure because I fall asleep after the first few pages!

Something about my family:.  I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband, two fantastic children, a supportive extended family, and my very good dog Zeke (an 87 lb. Labradoodle).

Something about my family:.  My husband Dennis is a clinical engineer for the Toledo Hospital.  We have two sons who are both married.  Steve and his wife Michelle live in the Columbus, Ohio, area and have a three year old daughter named Sara.  Sara will be a big sister in November when Megan Elaine will join the family!  We're all excited about that!  My younger son Todd works for the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.  He and his wife Rebecca have a sixteen month old son, Nathaniel.  We feel very blessed!

People may be surprised to know:!  My husband and I traveled to Alaska for our summer vacation this past summer.  Now my husband has traveled to all fifty states!

The year I came to Lial: 2003 – I taught in the Readiness Unit two days a week. 2004 to the present time, I teach full-time in the Primary Unit.

Why I chose Lial: Our son, Parker, is a student here.  When a teaching position became available, I felt compelled to apply for the job.  And the rest is history…   

Memorable Learning Experience:  My first year of teaching, many years ago, at Little Flower School.  I had 30 first grade students.  Just getting their boots on at the end of the day was a memorable experience!

Accomplishment I most cherish: Being Parker’s mom!

What I would like to get around to doing one of these daysI'd like to travel with my family out West for several months.

I would like to meet: My paternal grandparents.

A great reading experience: Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss.

Something about my family: We look forward to our annual visit to Traverse City, Michigan every summer.    

People may be surprised to know: My son and I are in a contemporary praise band, called Emmaus, at our parish, Blessed John XXIII.  It has been an amazing experience for both of us!

Why I chose Lial: The teachers had us at "hello"and my own SND education experience at Regina High. 
Memorable Learning Experience:  Diverse experience teaching. (Catholic School in Columbus, Cleveland Public School and Montessori in Napa Valley).
Accomplishment I most cherish:  Beginning First Science Fair Program at my former school and being a mom to 3 boys.
What I would like to get around to doing: Traveling to Spain and taking more photography classes.
I would like to meet: psh....Maya Angelou and Sally Ride, of course.
A great reading experience: Roald Dahl, especially The BFG and C.S Lewis.
Something about my family: My love for HGTV is a problem for us, I'm the inspiration and my husband is the perspiration.  If there is painting to be done every family member has a brush in hand.

Why I chose Lial:

Lial impressed me immediately with it's nurturing, caring atmosphere and a foundation in Gospel values.  The words in the School Covenant say it all, "as a child of God, I have a right..."

Memorable Learning Experience: A two week field experience in an Orff-Schulwerk method music classroom.  The students were totally engaged in creating, playing, and singing every day using percussion and ethnic instruments.  Their enthusiasm for their music making was so apparent, it was inspiring to all the college students in the room.

Accomplishment I most cherish: my amazing daughter, Jessica
What I would like to get around to doing one of these days: learn yoga, and have time and access to the proper pipe organ to work up my favorite Alain and Franck pieces.

Why I chose Lial:  Multi-aged learning atmosphere and caring, nurturing co-workers.

Memorable Learning Experience: Having three daughters, two of which are twins.

Accomplishment I most cherish: My family and all of our educations. 

What I would like to get around to doing: Traveling all fifty states and/or traveling to Norway and Sweden and learning to speak Italian.

I would like to meet: M.C. Escher (early Dutch graphic designer),  Peggy Guggenheim or Steve Jobs.

Something about my family: We love to play charades, tell stories and swim.

Why I chose Lial: Originally, I was assigned here by Lucas County ESC, but I ask to come back every fall because I LOVE the Lial atmosphere!
Memorable Learning Experience: My summer reading practicum at BGSU (condensed from 16 weeks into 2 weeks) was certainly memorable...I'm just happy I got through it!

Accomplishment I most cherish: I cherish my family and friends more than any accomplishment I've ever earned.
What I would like to get around to doing one of these days: I would love to take my son, Jackson, to the ocean

I would like to meet: Oh, if only I could arrange a meeting with Damon Lindelof and Carleton Cuse (the writers of "Lost").  I would love to ask them a few hundred unanswered questions!
A great reading experience:

Story time with Jack before bedtime is the best reading experience...he is partial to "Goodnight Moon" and "The Bellybutton Book".
